This post is dedcated for F1 freaks

Vrooom... and the 64 wheels (16x4) rolled out for 4 race of 60th season of F1. M. Schumacher started at the pole. Result came out after 62 laps in terms of time this corresponds to 1:31:06.486, and M. Schumacher was winner with new face of F1 (Alonso) 2.0 secs behind him.

Well this was succinct information of lastest race in F1 world. But through this post I intend to give a brief summary of F1, starting from history, dominating over technology, equipments used in current era of F1. So let the red lights turn off and lets us be the first to reach at finish line, where we will be welcomed with the chequered flag.

History
Formula One has its roots in European Grand Prix which were organised during 1920s and 1930s. F1 was first defined by Commission Sportive Internationale (CSI), but the rules were standardized by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile's (FIA). This all happenned in 1946.

But only in 1950 FIA organized first World Championship for Drivers. Alfa Romeo was dominating player in those days. Other interesting fact the cars in that era used to have average of less 0.8 kmpl. In those days Juan Manuel Fangio was the most successful driver.

In 1955 there was one of the worst incident in F1's history, when 83 persons were killed in Le Mans. This was when one of the Mercedes cars crashed. Then the following year there was another incident when Ascari (one of the well known driver of his time) driving his Ferrari drowned in harbour. Though he was pulled out alive. But that gave a warning bell to organizers. In 1958 season for the first time woman drove in F1, her name is Maria Teresa de Filippis.

After that came the 1960s when F1 changes drastically the power increased. Engines became more reliable. Lotus and Ferrari were two dominating players in the this period.

Come late 60s and early 70s the sponsorship came into role in F1 which allowed F1 to grow at full acceleration. 1970s was the era when F1 cars were becoming more stable, reliable and economic.

Though the cars which we see today had there evolution started from 1980s, Lotus team came up with "wings" on back of car, which in turn provided the better understanding of aerodynamics. In this period two F1 drivers in the accident.

Aryton Senna
Now i am not able to control my emotions and directly jumping to what i would like to call Aryton Senna period. He started his career with Toleman team, which was microscopic in front of gigantic teams like Williams, McLaren, Ferrari. In his career which spans upto 10 years he has 65 pole positions (this record was broken in the last race at San Marino by M.Schumacher). 41 wins to his name and 80 podium finishes.

Aryton then drived his career through teams like Lotus, McLaren and Williams-Renault. He was also known as the Master of Wet Driving. on 1st May,1994 he was racing in Imola and he met with and fatal accident. His quote in pre-1994 season was, "It's going to be a season with lots of accidents, and I'll risk saying that we'll be lucky if something really serious doesn't happen."

This all for this blog I will continue with the other topics like Domination over Technology and Equipments used in F1 will be taken in my next post which will be coming on coming Tuesday.

How Google is keeping itself as talk of town? (GMail is clay pigeon in the post below)

GMail from Google is heard from everyone these days. The infamous, “Do no evil” company, has hired many elegant people. Google is known for one of the fastest growing companies in the history of US.

When Google introduced GMail, people just went crazy. More and more people signed up every day, even switched their mail accounts to Gmail and even popularized the phrase “gmail it” (not email it), because they loved the new concept of message threading and other features (
AJAX to be specific). Last year, Google promised that it will never stop increasing space. To prove it, they added a counter on their main page that increases every second.
So the question is when will it reach 4 GB?

Let’s learn few facts before we begin:
  • The current rate of increase is at an average of 4 bytes per second
  • Our goal is 4 GB (4,29,49,67,296 bytes)
  • The current size is 2.7 GB (2,71,05,41,252 bytes as of 16:28 IST, April 03, 2006)

Now, we’re ready to do some basic math:
4 bytes / sec => 240 bytes / min => 14400 bytes / hr => 345600 bytes / day.
If our goal is 4 GB and we’re going at a rate of 345600 bytes / day, it would take:X days = 4,29,49,67,296 / 345,600 bytes= 12427.56740 days => ~34.081 years to go from 1 byte to 4 gigabytes.

Ok, now we’re already at 2,71,05,41,252 bytes as of 16:28 IST, April 03, 2006. We’re now 1584426044 bytes (1511.02642 MB) away from our 4 GB goal. So, let’s count how many days are left for GMail to become 4 GB.

X days = 528,081,272 / 345,600 bytes = 4584.5660 days => 12.56 years
Did you see that? It will take Google approximately 12 YEARS from today to give us 4 GB of space. That means… Google will reach 4 GB by 2018.
Note: The numbers might change depending on the demand, but the rate (4 bytes / sec) we’re going at now, it’ll take 12 years. Just to make things clear, I am not downsizing Google or it’s products (I love Gmail & the Google search engine), but I just wanted to make you aware of the number-game that Google is playing with us.

I am back!

What did you thought at first moment reading the topic? Its really hard to guess, but let me tell what came to my mind "TERMINATOR". Its exactly 62th day I am writing onto my blog :( Hope I wont repeat it again.

In between what all went to my life, I will mention about it in succinct lines
  • February: I was going through a very hectic life. Loads of work in office. While in weekends learning German, and attending BM meeting. I have collected some material for F1 racing, which i will present to you all in my next post.
  • March: Even the wink would have lost the race, if try to recollect the duration of 31 days. The month when I went to meet my sister, mama, and parents. It was the month which is farced with my birthday celebrations.
